GMB members in the Estates department at Derriford Hospital are seeking a full review of Recruitment and Retention Payments (RRP).
RRP was removed several years ago when staffing levels were higher and retention was no longer seen as a concern however, over the past year or so there have been retirements and some experienced staff departures.
Members have highlighted concerns to the GMB about the rapid reduction of qualified and experienced staff in certain areas of hospital estates. e.g. Electricians
An on-call rota of 1:5 is becoming a reality and our members are beginning to consider career options with other employers. Members advising GMB that Private sector employers can often offer substantially better terms and certainly can offer better levels of basic pay without commitment to any contractual on call.
GMB raised the concern with the HR department and is now waiting for PHNT to gather facts and data. Trade Unions and PHNT will then meet to discuss further and hopefully negotiate a reasonable way forward.
GMB will update its relevant members directly and will involve the local rep in any consultation.
